How to sew a heart-shaped table decoration

Created1/21/2025

Valentine's Day - a holiday that divides the world into two inseparable camps. Some love it and can't wait for hearts, roses and a romantic dinner to be everywhere. Others sigh that it's just one big madness and love should be expressed all year round. It doesn't matter which group you belong to - with a little creativity, you can conjure up decorations that will be in style not only on February 14th, but also for the rest of the year.

Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day? It is said that we celebrate this holiday in honor of the priest Valentine, who secretly married couples in love. His courage is supposed to inspire us even today, so Valentine's Day is a great opportunity to celebrate love in any form. It can be love with a partner, for family, but also for good food and drink.

And while we're on the subject of love and good taste, let's create a stylish heart-shaped table decoration together. It will not only add a romantic atmosphere to your Valentine's evening, but will also remain a beautiful decoration of your home long after, unlike the pink chocolate wrappers that disappear and the roses that wither.

For those of you who are going to start sewing Valentine's Day decorations, we have prepared sets from which you can create a table decoration in the shape of a large heart and four small hearts for a cup or saucer. The set includes everything you need, from fabric to sewing thread. The sets are in the category - DECORATION SETS

To sew a Valentine's Day placemat, you will need:

0.5 m patterned cotton fabric

0.5 m of adhesive reinforcement

1 piece of sewing thread

heart-shaped cut

How to sew the decoration:

  • First, prepare the fabric. Use an iron to press the fabric so that it doesn't shrink after washing, and then adhere it all over with adhesive backing.
  • On the wrong side of the fabric, trace the outline of the large heart and the small hearts. Then cut them out.
  • Place the heart pieces face to face and sew them together around the perimeter . Leave a small unsewn hole in each heart, which you will then turn over. Before turning over, trim the seam and carefully cut close to the seam at the point of curvature.
  • We replace the edge of the turned hearts, iron them and sew them decoratively around the edge. We also sew the hole left for turning them using the stitching.

These quick hearts will make you happy not only on Valentine's Day, but also throughout the rest of the year. For example, as a stylish table decoration or a gift for family and friends. With a little patience and imagination, you can decorate the hearts with embroidery, beads, decorative ribbon or lace. So, grab your sewing machine and get creative.
