Christmas is just around the corner and we often wonder what to wear to a party, a family gathering or to the Christmas tree. We don't have time for complicated cuts or long hours at the sewing machine, but we still want to look nice and festive. Fortunately, even at the last minute, we can sew comfortable and elegant dresses that even a beginner can handle. All you need is a simple procedure, a few basic measurements and a knit that we will feel comfortable in.
For this quick dress, the length of the dress and the length of the sleeves are enough. Elastic materials that wear well are perfect, for example viscose and cotton knits , Punto di Prada, travel punto or various types of knits. Thanks to them, the dress fits beautifully, is comfortable to wear and is sewn quickly, without making a mistake.

We will use the T-shirt cut, which we will lengthen according to how long we want the dress to be . We will slightly widen the dress on the sides according to the circumference of the hips , so that it fits well and is comfortable.
Leave the lower edge of the sleeve wider and tuck it into the cuff. Measure the circumference of your arm + 2cm for extra space. Sew the cuff into a circle and fold it in half. The result – beautifully gathered sleeves that will give the dress a festive look.
Measure the circumference of the neckline and decide how high you want the turtleneck to be. Cut a strip of knitwear that matches the circumference of the neckline plus seam allowance and the desired height of the turtleneck. Sew the strip into a circle and fold it in half , creating a double turtleneck that holds its shape nicely and fits comfortably over your head.
Place the front and back pieces face to face and sew the shoulder straps and side seams . Iron all seams to the back piece.
Place the sleeve seams right sides together and sew . Pin the sleeve into the armhole and sew . Sew the bottom edge of the sleeve into the cuff.
Pin the turtleneck, right sides together, into the neckline and sew.
Fold the bottom edge of the dress inside out and sew.
Thanks to a simple T-shirt cut and a few minor adjustments, we created a comfortable, quick, and festive dress that we can sew even at the last minute. Ideal for a Christmas party, family gathering, or tree decoration. And if we added ruffled sleeves, we suddenly have an outfit that looks luxurious and elegant, without unnecessary stress and complicated sewing.
